Experience the Caribbean’s Best Kept Secret at The Windmill Bar – Enjoy the Best Sunset View in the Virgin Islands.

Scenic Views

The first thing I want you to know is the Windmill Bar has the most STUNNING sunset views of our bright orange ball burning bright on the horizon as it dips behind the neighboring island, St Thomas. It is the kind of sunset that gives you goosebumps and burns a lasting memory you will jog back to frequently. The bar offers quirky yet comfortable outdoor patio furnishings to lounge on, and the natural environment provides stonewalls and boulders. Grab a cocktail, take a seat, and enjoy the show. Thank you, Mother Nature and Father Ocean.

Casual Vibe

The atmosphere at the Windmill Bar is casual and relaxed. Carribean style, festive and fun, vibrating with locals and tourists alike. Children playing, folks donning smiles and laughter, and live music enticing a few to shake off a few moves. Enjoy the protection of the large shaded deck off the north side of the bar, and take in the view directly over Hawksnest Bay. Catch a glimpse of all the boats as they sail and cruise on by.

Local Grub

The Windmill Bar’s dining menu offers a variety of local favorites: Buffalo Chicken Dip Appetizer, Peel and Eat Shrimp, Grilled Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos or Mahi Mahi Sandwich, the BIG Windmill Burger which is their version of a Big Mac, and sides of Mac & Cheese loaded up with all the fixings. Check out the full menu here.

Drinks

They are shaking up all of your Caribbean favorites at this fun-loving bar! You will have a tough decision to make between a Painkiller, a Rum Punch, or a Cruzan Confusion. Try their namesake cocktail, “The Windmill Breeze,” with your choice of Vodka or Rum. They have a plethora of rum to choose from, including Brugal 1888, Coconut Cartel, and Blue Chair Bay, to name a few. It is a delight to see a couple of beautiful wines by the bottle on the menu, Caymus Cabernet and Rombauer Chardonnay. Go for the celebratory bubbles, Veuve Clicquot! You are on holiday, after all. Live a little! Happy Hour is served daily from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.

History

Estate Susannaberg is a former sugar plantation Mr. Neptune Richards purchased in the 1940s. A plantation, including the Susannaberg windmill, which was built in the 1780s. The Windmill Bar is part of Neptune’s Lookout, a recreational estate including the windmill, the bar, a 9-hole disc golf course, and a campsite. The current owners are descendants of Neptune.

Getting There

Have your Captain hail a Safari Taxi Truck from the taxi stand near the ferry terminal in Cruz Bay. It is about a 10-minute ride up the windy hillside island roads. Enjoy the warm breeze and the view as you venture up for a local treat. Hope you like it!
